Abstract
Emerging New Dimensions in Modern Fiction
Prateek Mali
Volume: 11 Issue: 1 2021
Abstract:
Contemporary Hindi fiction serves as a powerful reflection of the rapid transformations taking place in Indian society, culture, and value systems. Modern Hindi short stories have moved beyond traditional plots and idealistic perspectives to focus on realism, psychological exploration, and social concerns. Present-day fiction prominently addresses issues such as emotional alienation, urbanization, globalization, displacement, family disintegration, feminist discourse, Dalit discourse, and existential crises. Although the Nai Kahani (New Story) movement sought to portray the realities of life, many critics have questioned whether contemporary stories have been successful in representing the totality and diversity of Indian life.
