The Negative Class Mentality in Ian McEwan's Atonement

Abstract:
This paper discusses the negative class mentality of the 1930 as it is used in the British novelist, Ian McEwan 's Atonement (2001) which sheds light on changing the structure of social system with main focus on the male protagonist Robbie Turner. In this paper, I attempt to explore that class- related dependency can achieve success and liberation. The ability of imagining other people’s situations and perspectives could be an important tool for understanding the world as well as for evolving on a personal level.
